Nearly 30 years ago the landscape of the jewelry industry was very different. During those years, we specialized in creating one-of-a-kind pieces including bridal jewelry for larger diamonds and gemstones.
Bostonian Jewelers Review of Solidscape S350 High Precision 3D Printer Beta

The Solidscape Customer Service Team is amazing and consistent. They make sure the S350 High Precision 3D Printer is properly set up and running before they leave. Although we did not call them for one issue on the new S350, we know they are there and always available to take our phone call.

This year, the good folks at Solidscape invited me to join them as a “Featured Designer” at their booth during the JCK show in Las Vegas. I am honored to be attending and look forward to my role during the show and to discovering all that is new with other exhibitors. In preparation for JCK2016 show, I wanted to highlight some of the design challenges and techniques I have discovered over the years during my transition from bench to CAD jeweler.
Bostonian Jewelers on Preserving the Past

Restorations have always been at the heart of our business dating back generations. Prior to 1990, our industry had been limited to the same hand tools used for hundreds of years. I can only imagine where we would be if only our fathers had the tools and technology we have access to today. Restorations are considered a specialty within our industry due to the complexities of each project. Every project is different and every project is unpredictable. There are a multitude of variables that arise during what may appear at first to be a simple sizing.
Looking Back and Moving Forward

This week, Ali Matossian from Bostonian Jewelers says goodbye to her “best employee,” her first 3D printer as it was traded in for a new one. It was a bittersweet day, which ended on a high note if you look at Ali’s 24-hour Instagram Story before it disappears. Forty years ago, Hagop Matossian opened Hagop Settings, a jewelry repair shop, in Boston. His specialty was creating one-of-a-kind pieces, including diamond engagement ring mountings to accommodate oversize center stones, for stores that didn’t have in-house design capabilities.
